Workshop on “Cloud Computing”

Workshop on “Cloud Computing” is being organized by Dr. Ritika on Saturday August 2, 2013 under CSI Dehradun Chapter banner. Dr. Sudhanshu Joshi from Doon University, Dehradunspoke on cloud computing in which Cloud Computing Segments, Applications, Storage, Connectivity and Cloud Computing Deployment etc. topics was discussed which helped in upgradation of the knowledge of students.

Workshop on “Android Application development on sensors”

A workshop on “Android” is being organized by Dr. Ritikaon 14 September, Saturday.Speaker Mr. KeshavJha, BE from SRSIT, Banglore from CetpaInfotech Pvt. Ltd. has discussedhow sensors are capable of providing raw data with high precision and accuracy as well as how it is useful if somebody wants to monitor three-dimensional device movement or positioning, or how to monitor changes in the ambient environment near a device. Approx 65 students of MCA (2nd&3rd year) has participated.

Workshop on “Android”

Computer Society of India (CSI) is the largest, non–profit association of IT professionals in India,that started in the year 1965. CSI Dehradun chapter has organized two days (10-11 Oct) workshop on “Android” by CetpaInfotech Pvt. Ltd at DIT University Dehradun. Participants are computer Application students in the workshop. Event has been Inaugurated by lighting of lamp by Dr. B. V. Babu Pro Vice Chancellor DIT University, Prof. Shishir Kumar Director Academics Administration, Dr. Ritika Head MCA and Chairman CSI Dehradun chapter and  Dr. T N JowharScientist-F Wadia Institute of Geophysics and Vice Chairman CSI Dehradun Chapter. Workshop has been divided in four sessions which basically gives hands on practical exposure to develop android applications.
  • A workshop was conducted by Deptt. of Mechanical Engg. on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System (UAV) from 21 -23 January 2014.
  • Two days seminar was conducted by SGPTC on “Pharma Manufacturing & Packaging Operations, Validation & Qualification & In- Process Quality Control & Quality Control” from 11/04/13 to 12/04/13 for B.Pharm&M.Pharm students.
  • The Electrical department organized in collaboration with Bureau of Indian standards (BIS) an Educational Utilization related to BIS activities specifically Standardization for the students of Electrical Engineering Department.
World Conference on Advances in Communication and Control Systems - CACCS 2013

The first world conference of DIT University ‘Advances in Communication and Control Systems - CACCS 2013’ was th th held at DIT University from 6 to 8 April, 2013.
The conference was aimed at providing a forum for engineering professionals to discuss and present the latest in Green Communication Networks, Instrumentation and Human Interface Technology. Renowned experts were invited to present research papers in the areas of Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Electronics & Communication Engineering.
A total of 347 papers were received out of which 143 papers were selected for publication in Atlantis Press, France (in collaboration with SpringerLink) which would be indexed at: Compendex/EI, ISI, Proceeding (CPCI), JCRThomson Reuters, Proquest, Ulrichweb, Citeseer, DOAJ, Google Scholar, NASA USA, Cornell University, Informatics open-J Gates, Scientific Commons, Worldcat, National Library of Swedan, Harward University, University of Washington, Universitat Karisruhe, Pennsylvania State University, USA and the like.

Campus Placement

The potential employers are shortlisted on the basis of students discipline and there interests and market research. They are then contacted and invited to the campus in accordance with our accepted policy and priorities.  It fulfills dual purposes, one for students securing their future career, and industry securing the best fresh talents available in the region.

Industry Meet

Cell organizes industrial meet at the institute. Two such meets were organized by the CELL. Both the meets proved fruitful for the students, faculty and the industry personnel.

Expert Lectures

Cell organizes expert lecture series during seminar or at the department level in coordination with student organizations. Such lectures familiarize the students and the faculty with the state - of - art industry practices and their correlation with the textbook material.

Industrial Training for the Students

Training is the integral part of the study to acknowledge them for real world problems. Students are placed at various industries for 6 to 8 weeks and under supervision and guidance of respective industry personnel. The faculty carries out monitoring and evaluation regularly.

Industrial Visit – Study Tour

In each semester, industry visits of the students with faculty members are organized to the relevant industries at various locations. It serves the objective of exposure to large-scale practical applications of theoretical aspects for the students.

Student Projects

Students prepare the projects reflecting the needs and problems of the industry. Institute faculty interacts with industry personnel for successful implementation of such projects.

Training for the Faculty

Faculty is deputed to the industry to gain firsthand experience on industrial plants and processes. This exposure enhances the teaching capability of the faculty and allows them to enrich their classroom delivery.

Career Orientation Program

Programmes to orient students about industry expectations are organized. Additional seminars are undertaken by the students in each semester to improve learning in the areas like Literature Survey, Personality Development, Group Discussion and Presentation Skills. Moreover, opportunities of Technologies for communication skills enhancement are provided.

Entrepreneurship development cell (EDC) 

We are running entrepreneurship development cell with grant from EDI and DST. The program is meant for encourage student to be an entrepreneur. Special efforts are on to establish incubation cell with funding from central govt. agencies to provide logistic as well as financial support.

Training & Placement Department has an important role to play in student’s future an indispensable pillar of the Institute.  This department continuously strives to help students in pursuing their career goals by acquiring employment-seeking skills and ultimately to attain desired employment. This is accomplished through building a strong partnership amongst students, alumni, faculty members and industries.
DIT follows centralized placement activity which gives each branch equal opportunity to grow for sustained excellence in career through training & placement.
 
 
Objectives of this department are as follows:
  • Assist students to develop their academic and career interests, and their short and long-term goals through individual counseling and group discussion.
  • Assist students to development and implement successful job search strategies.
  • Work with faculty members, department heads and administration to integrate career planning with academic curriculum.

The placement process includes intensive pre-placement activities comprising of:
  • Career Counselling Sessions - to inform and educate students about the various job opportunities available in the corporate world.
  • Group Discussions - to provide training and practice to the students about in-group behaviour and leadership skills.
  • Presentation Skills and Workshops - to enhance communication techniques.
  • Technical Tests - to revive knowledge and basic understanding of the subjects.
  • Mock Interviews - to enable the students to face real time work scenarios through regular mock interview sessions.

Prof (Col) SHISHIR KUMAR Designation:Director (Academic Administration)

                         Diploma in Management, DU, Delhi - 2000
                         Experience: 40 yrs

Prof Shishir Kumar, BTech (NIT), MTech (IIT), MBA (DU), Staff College (Wellington), Electro-medical Equipment Course (USA), MTech (Weapon Technology), Senior Command Course (Indian Army) has 31 years of experience in color service in Corps of EME, out of which he worked for 14 years in category 'A' institutions as a Professor,Academic Administrator, Chief Instructor and Faculty Member. He was a visiting professor at IAT Giri Nagar, Higher Command and Senior Command wing at College of Combat Mhow, Staff College Wellington and IIM Indore (MDP Program). He was also an Instructor grade 'A' at the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering and EME School, Baroda. He has been awarded the ‘Chief of Army Staff Commendation’ thrice for devotion to duty and distinguished service. He has published four papers on Total Quality Management and Quality Costs in MIT Journal - Dynamica. He was also the Dean at Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management from 2002 to 2005.
Prof Kumar has been with DIT since 2006 as Dean Academics and since 2013 he is serving as Director - Academic Administrator.
Prof (Ar) NEHRU LAL Designation: Director Architecture
Qualification: MArch University of Roorkee (1972)
                          Experience 36 years with DIT since 2005

Prof Nehru Lal, product of University of Roorkee, 1968, BArch and 1972 MArch, has over 35 years of academic and professional experience in architecture, is the director of Faculty of Architecture of DIT University Dehradun. He is former director of APJ School of Architecture and Planning Greater Noida. He also headed the Department of Architecture, Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi. He was Principal & Dean, Government College of Architecture, Lucknow University. He has conducted/attended various training workshops and seminars. He has to his credit publishing of 11 technical research papers. He is member of Council of Architecture, Convener of Board of Governors ASAP and also the member of other prestigious institutions.
Prof (Dr) N V SATHEESH MADHAV Designation: Director Faculty of Pharmacy
Qualification: PhD
                          Experience 20 years
                          With DIT since 2008

Prof (Dr) N V Satheesh Madhav, MPharm, PhD has filed more than 40 Indian patents, published 35 journals and 186 presentations are in his credit. He is an approved PhD guide in various universities. He has guided more than 50 MPharm & PhD students. He is a pioneer in exploring novelistic routes like orotrans soft palatal route, trans-nabhi drug delivery, trans-labial drug delivery, tranlingual drug delivery, brain drug targeting via soft palatal, ocular & ear route. He has isolated more than 100 biopolymers from the natural sources & characterized from its pharmaceutical applications. His is an expert in brain targeting, transungual delivery, transmucosal drug delivery and bio-nano particulate drug delivery systems. He is President, Uttarakhand State IPA Branch & a recipient of Young Scientist Award from UCOST in 2009.
Dr M C BHANDARI Designation: Professor & Dean (International)
Qualification: PhD from University of Missouri
                          Columbia, MO USA
                          Experience 41 years in teaching & research
with DIT since 2006

Dr M C Bhandari was selected by the Ford foundation for a National Science Foundation Scholarship to do MS at University of Wyoming, USA in 1966. He continued his studies in the US and was awarded PhD degree in Mathematics by the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA. He has served at IIT Kanpur from 1971 to 2003 as a faculty in the mathematics department. He guided 8 PhDs and published 27 papers in renowned journals and attended many International Conferences and also served as a visiting Professor for three years at the State University of New York, USA.
 
Dr J S SAINI Designation: Professor (ME) & Dean (R&D)
Qualification: PhD from IIT Roorkee
                          Experience 45 years
                          With DIT since 2009


Prof J S Saini, presently Visiting Professor at DIT University, obtained his Doctorate from Roorkee in 1975. He has served as Head, Mechanical Engg Deptt, Director Alternate Hydro Energy Centre , Dean Sponsored Research & Consultancy, Dean Faculty Affairs and Emeritus Professor at IIT Roorkee. He has guided 40 PhD scholars and over 100 MTech scholars. He has over 200 research publications in reputed international and national journals and conferences/ workshops / seminars. He has successfully handled several research & development and consultancy projects and has won several research and academic awards including Institution of Engineers (India) Student Chapter Lifetime Achievement Award and Outstanding Teacher Award of IIT Roorkee.

Dr Manoj Bhatnagar, Head of Physics department completed his MTech from IIT Delhi in Solid State Materials and obtained his PhD from the University of Paris. His area of interest is research and includes Solid State Physics and Amorphous Silicon Materials. He has published research papers in international journals and conferences. He has been with DIT since 1998, prior to that he was in various industries at senior levels. He is also the Dean of Students Welfare.
 
Dr D N SARAF Designation: Professor (Petroleum)
Qualification: PhD-University of California-1966

Dr D N Saraf graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad in 1961. After a very short stint in ONGC, he went to University of California, Berkeley where he received Master's and Doctoral degrees both in Petroleum Engineering in 1963 and 1966 respectively. He spent another year there as Assistant Research Engineer before joining IIT Kanpur as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering in 1967. He has published over 150 research papers in National and International journals. He has closely worked with petroleum refineries on projects related to process modeling, optimization and control of some processes such as CDU, FCCU, hydro-cracking, Amine unit etc.
 
Prof (Dr)H C MEHNDIRATTA Designation: Professor (Civil Engineering)
Qualification: Ph.D. - University of Roorkee – 1983

Professor (Dr.) H.C. Mehndiratta is presently Professor of Civil Engineering at DIT University, Dehradun. He is B.Sc. (Gold Medalist of the college) from Agra University .He did B.E.(Civil),M.E.(Highways) and Ph.D. from University of Roorkee(now IIT Roorkee).He retired as professor of Civil Engineering from IIT Roorkee after serving for 35 years. Prof. Mehndiratta has teaching, research and field experience of 42 years .He has guided a number of Ph.D. and M.Tech theses. Dr. Mehndiratta's field of specialization is Transportation Engineering and major areas of research are Pavement analysis andDesign, Pavement Characterization and Low Cost Roads. Prof. Mehndiratta is life member of IRC and ISDTand was council member of IRC during 1987-88. He was awarded Certificate of Merit from IE (India) for research paper in 2001; IRC medal for the best paper in2004 and Brij Mohan Lal Memorial Prize(Gold Medal)from IE(India) for the research paper in 2009.
 
Dr S C GUPTA Designation: Professor (Electronics & Communication Engineering)

Dr S C Gupta was formerly Professor and Head of ECE at IIT Roorkee. He is having more than 40 years of experience in teaching and research activities. His works have been published in over 150 national & international journals. He had been to USA, Canada and Middle East Countries as visiting Professor. DR Gupta is visiting faculty and has guided 10 students for their PhD thesis.
 
Dr B P PANDEY Designation:Professor - Advisor (Petroleum)
Qualification: MTech and PhD from IIT Kanpur

Dr Pandey did his MTech and doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur. He started his professional career with ONGC. There he served for three years and then moved to the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad where he served for 37 years at different positions including Professor & Head of the Petroleum Engineering department. He guided many PhD and MTech projects apart from a number of research projects sponsored by the government and industry. Dr Pandey is associated with DIT University as a visiting faculty.
 
Dr A N KAUL Designation: Professor (Pysics) & Dean (R&C)

Dr A N Kaul joined DIT University, Dehradun in July 2013 as Dean, Research & Consultancy. Prior to joining DIT University, Dr Kaul was the Associate Director and Head (Photonics Research) at IRDE, Dehradun, a premier R&D laboratory of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO). During his tenure at DRDO lasting for almost three decades, Dr Kaul had established state-of-the-art facilities in the Design & Development of Photonics and Nanophotonics Technologies. Dr Kaul was awarded the prestigious BOYSCAST fellowship by Department of Science & Technology (DST) to undertake research at EEE Department, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland (UK) in 1994. He was also awarded the DRDO Scientist of the Year (2005) for establishing state-of-the-art facilities to Design and develop various Photonic Technologies. Dr Kaul is a fellow of the Optical Society of India, Life member of Indian laser Association and Indian Remote Sensing Society.

Dr. M.L Garg, presently Professor and Head. Department of Computer Science & Engineering at DIT University, Dehradun, has obtained his Ph.D degree in Computer Science & Engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (Deemed University), Patiala with collaborative research work at IIT Delhi, in the year 1992. He has a total experience of about 37 years out of which 16 years is in academics and 21 years is in Punjab State Electricity Board. Three researchers have completed and 4 others are pursuing their Ph.D under his supervision. He has been the Dean Faculty of Engineering for a period of 5 years at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra. His area of research includes Fuzzy Logic Genetic Algorithms & Knowledge Representation and Reasoning. He has published about thirty research articles in peer reviewed International and National Journals and Conferences. He is on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Cloud Computing and Super Computing, (IJCS) Canada.
 
Dr SANJAY BHARGAVA Designation: Professor & Head (IT Department)

Dr Sanjay Bhargava, presently Head of IT departments at DIT University, obtained his PhD degree in Computer Science from Banasthali University. He has a rich experience of over 17 years including 15 years in teaching and remaining 2 years with industry. During his 15 years of teaching profession he has served at various academic and directorial positions in Universities like Banasthali University, IIT Roorkie, Gurukul Kangri University etc. He has guided over 80 MTech students in their project works. He has a total publication count of 16 research papers in reputed international and national journals. Besides he is an active reviewer in 11 international journals and at an international conference. He has successfully handled several R & D projects. He is also Head of Student Coordination Committee of the CSI-DIT chapter since 2012.
 
Dr SANDEEP SHARMA Designation: Professor & Head (ECE & AEI Dept)

Dr. Sandeep Sharma is an Professor & Head at Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering with an overall experience of 15+ years from Industry and academia alike. He completed his Masters & Doctorate from University of Delhi in the field of Electronics. He has supervised more than 50 projects to Undergraduate & Post Graduate Students. He has also supervised more than 20 industrial R & D as well as Development projects. He has about 10 papers in International Journals & Conferences to his name. His current area of research are wireless based embedded systems and image processing.
 
Dr GAGAN SINGH Designation: Professor & Head (EED)

Dr Gagan Sing is a Professor and Head of Electrical Department with an experience of 14 years. He completed his MTech and PhD in Electrical Engineering and published a book on ‘Electrical Measurement & Measuring Instruments’ in 2004. He was a recipient of Young Scientist Award in first Uttaranchal State Science Congress by Uttaranchal Council of Science & Technology, Government of Uttaranchal in November 2006. He has published 22 papers which includes 7 International and 15 national journals. His main field of interest is Hydro Power Plant Instrumentation and Renewable Energy Resources. Dr Singh is life member of IE (I) and ISTE.
 
Dr YOGESH KUMAR TYAGI Designation: Professor & Head (Deptt of ME)

Prof Y K Tyagi, presently Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department at DIT Dehradun obtained his BTech in Mechanical Engineering from G B Pant University Pantnagar in 1993, Master of Technology in Machine Design from G B Pant University Pantnagar,Uttarakhand, in 2002 and Doctorate (Polymer Composites) from BIET, Bundelkhand University Jhansi in 2006. He joined DIT in 2010 after working for a Government Engineering College in Uttarakhand. He has a teaching experience of 17 years and industrial experience of two years.He has taught a variety of courses which include Strength of Materials, Material Science,Engineering Thermodynamics, Engineering Mechanics and Composites Materials.  He has published six research papers in international and national journals.
 
Dr SHAILENDRA KUMAR TIWARY Designation: Professor & Head (Department of Civil Engineering)
Qualification: Ph. D. from M.I.T. Muzaffarpur (Bihar University)

Dr Shailendra Kumar Tiwary obtained BE in Civil Engineering from MSRIT, Bangalore in 1991 and ME from MIT Muzaffarpur with grade A. He has completed his Ph. D. from M.I.T. Muzaffarpur (Bihar University, Muzaffarpur) in Structural Engineering on the topic ‘Use of High Volume Fly Ash Concrete’. He has contributed several research papers in leading journals and presented several papers in the conferences. His  research  interest  includes   Design of Concrete Structures, Design of Pre-stressed Concrete Structures and Steel Structures. He has got total work experience of 22 years, out of which 18 years is in teaching and research and 4 years in industries. He is at present serving at DIT University, Dehradun as Professor & H.O.D. in the Department of Civil Engineering. He has worked as Associate and Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology, Muzaffarpur for 16 years and. Dr Tiwary is Member of Institution of Engineers (India) and ISTE.
 
Dr UPENDRA SINGH YADAV Designation: Assistant Professor (HOD Petroleum)
Qualification: PhD (pursuing) from ISM Dhanbad
                          Experience 6 years With DIT since 2012

Mr Yadav is pursuing his PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Indian School of Mines Dhanbad. He has four years of research experience with research interests in enhanced oil recovery and profile modification. He has published many research papers in a number of national and international journals of repute, apart from this he has also attended many national and international conferences and symposiums.

An innovative personality with deep knowledge of Advance Networking, Mobile Computing, Computer  Organization, Digital Electronics, J2EE  based applications, Microprocessor etc. Dr Ritika has published many research papers in various national & international journals. She is member of IEEE and CSI, Chairman Computer Society of India, Dehradun chapter and supervising number of research scholars under her able guidance.
 
Dr NAVEEN KUMAR SINGHAL Designation: Professor & Head (Chemistry)

Dr Singhal is PhD from University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) and has a Masters degree in Organic Chemistry. He has published 20 research papers in national and international journals and has authored many books on Engineering Chemistry, Environment & Pharmacy.
 
Dr RAKESH MOHAN Designation: Professor, HOD
Qualification: PhD from IIT BHU

Dr Rakesh Mohan has completed his PhD from IT BHU and has a rich experience of 18 years inteaching and research activities. He has published more than 16 papers in reputed national & international journals and also authored four books on Engineering Mathematics. He has guided eight research scholars for their PhD degrees. His fields of specialization are Special Function, Numerical Techniques and Differential Equations.
 
Dr RUBY GUPTA Designation: Professor & Head, Humanities
Qualification: BSc, MA (Double Gold Medalist) DCE, PhD

Dr Ruby Gupta has over 15 years’ experience in teaching and 5 years’ experience in journalism. Recipient of the ‘Pratibha Samman Award for Journalism’, her published works include six books, 50 short stories, articles, interviews, and poems. Her research papers have been published / presented in national and international conferences. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the DIT magazine and Newsletter. Several students are pursuing PhD under her guidance. She is Member, Board of Studies; Member, Research Degree Committee; Head Examiner and Founder Editor of the Newsletter at Uttarakhand Technical University. In 2004, Rotary International awarded her the GSE for the United States.
 
Dr PRAKASH TIWARI Designation: Associate Professor (FMS)

Dr Prakash Tiwari has more than a decade of experience in academic and research area. He has published  more  than twelve  research  papers  in   various peer-reviewed national and international journals and conferences/seminars of repute. He has attended various AICTE/ICSSR sponsored FDPs and QIPs Organized by IITs & other institutes of repute. He is conferred upon with the DPhil degree from HNB Garhwal Central University, Srinagar Garhwal and acquired his Post Graduation in Management from GHS IMR, Kanpur.
 
Dr GOPAL NANDAN Designation: Professor (ME)

Dr. Gopal Nandan obtained PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in the area of Nuclear Reactor Safety in 2011. Dr. Nandan earned his ME degree from BITS Pilani (Rajasthan) in 2000. He obtained B.Sc(Engineering) in Mechanical Engineering from B. C. E. Bhagalpur (A Govt. Engineering College of Bihar, Affiliated to T.M.B. University, Bhagalpur) in 1998. He has published sixteen research papers in various peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. His research interest includes Nuclear reactor safety, Heat transfer, FEM and computational fluid dynamics. He is reviewer of seven International Journals. He has fourteen years of teaching and research experience.
At present Dr. Nandan is serving at DIT University, Dehradun as Professor in the department of Mechanical Engineering. Prior to this he was associated with BITS Pilani (Rajasthan) and COER, Roorkee. Currently he is supervising students of M Tech and B Tech for thesis work. Recently he organized a National Conference in Energy Engineering 2012 at DIT as Organising secretary. He attended several quality improvement programs at IIT. He has also conducted several workshops at DIT University for B. Tech and M. Tech students.
 
Prof D K SAXENA Designation: Professor (ECE)

Prof D K Saxena is pursuing PhD in Power Line Communication from Thapar University, completed his ME in Guided Missiles, University of Poona. He has 35 years’ experience in army technical institutions besides others including industry and teaching. He has had stints with on job training and experience on many complex electronics and communication equipment. He has done courses in communication, radar, electronics related to communication and fire control systems in Sweden and UK. Prof Saxena is corporate member of IETE.

Dr Hemraj Verma with a threemonths association with IIM Ahmedabad through FDP 2010 and experience of more than a decade in academics and industry, Dr Hemraj Verma, is skilled at delivering case based learning. Curretnly, he is working as an Associate Professor in Faculty of Management Studies, DIT University. He completed his Doctoral from Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar and MBA in marketing from CCS University (campus), Meerut. He has published several research papers in journals of national and international repute. His current teaching and research interests includes
Digital Marketing and Business Analytics. He has also co-authored a book titled “Marketing Management” published by Global Vision Publishers Pvt Ltd New Delhi.

Prof Somnath Basu has 25 years’ industrial and 12 years’ teaching experience. He has presented papers at various national /international conferences organized by BIT Mesra, TIET Patiala, GGSIPU Delhi. His areas of interest include materials and manufacturing.
